The breakup of the Kyrie Irving saga in Brooklyn looks like it could go a little longer after NYC Mayor-elect Eric Adams said he would not change the city’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate that requires athletes, at least a dose of vaccination for home games.

“New York City is not going to change its rule,” Adams said in an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN.

“Again, it’s up to the NBA and Kyrie to come to a full understanding of how to keep him on the nets and continue to take care of all of our athletes who come here.”

Under the mandate, Irving would have planned to miss the Nets’ 43 games in New York, but the franchise ruled that he would also not be allowed to play on the street or train with his teammates, effectively excluding their Star Point Guard’s season if the season breaks out Do not change mandates.

Irving averaged 26.9 points, 6 assists and 4.8 rebounds in 54 games for the Nets last season.
